dovetails started as a search: a search for clean, simple and versatile articles of everyday clothing. Clothing made from natural fibres, which breathe and feel beautiful next to the skin. Natural fibres which are grown and processed sustainably for both the environment and the people involved, then crafted fairly and made to last.

We have seen what is available offshore, but it seemed that here in New Zealand we were unable to find what we were looking for.

Our search naturally evolved into this venture, a venture to cultivate a brand of our own. A brand which offers beautiful, organic and comfortable clothing made here in New Zealand, with a touch of Mishfit.

Each individually followed their hearts and over a decade ago found themselves settled in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

In stilettos, jandals or steel cap boots and with a sense that anything is possible, these two women forged a unique and kindred friendship. With many similarities and complimentary differences, the desire to work together and share what they believe in has brought them to dovetails.

Striking, playful and feminine, enter Mishfit.

A vibrant contemporary artist (and long time art college friend of Amy's), Mish's unique style of beautiful loose brush strokes and edgy street art, complemented by crisp typography, were the perfect fit for what we want to create here at dovetails. Lucky for us the fit was right for her too and we have had the great pleasure of working with her to create dovetails' visual brand.

Bamboo is one of the nicest fabrics we have ever worn! It feels silky soft next to the skin and is remarkably hard wearing. It washes incredibly well and its breathable, insulating properties have the ability to keep you cool or warm. Bamboo is also known to be hypo-allergenic, so should not harbour odour and is suitable for the most sensitive of skin types.

Bamboo (a grass) is also one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Without the need for pesticides or chemical fertilisers and with minimal water required it is an incredibly sustainable resource.

Where required, we have used a blend of bamboo and organic cotton with a touch of spandex to achieve the highest performance out of this beautiful fabric.

The fabrics we have sourced use GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) production methods and dyes and are CU (Control Union) and Oeko-Tex 100 class 1 certified.
